Great work :) Maybe its my repeated question hope you dont mind . What
did the lab installation include ? How was the experience ?
Fedora-18 has about 30K packages overall. Our kickstart based remote
installation installs about 7.5K packages (almost all package groups in
F18, excluding languages).
After the lab setup, the college system admin told me that he would
immediately discuss with HOD, Principal and Management to change most labs
to Linux/FOSS. This experience I had in almost all the colleges I visited
/ setup labs.
Repeating again that, the colleges have completely lost interest in
Proprietary OS / Applications and all institutions wants to switch to
Linux. By 2015, about 70% of engineering colleges in TN would be using
Linux in their IT infrastructure. Changes in curriculum and avoiding
proprietary applications in lab requirements could make this process a lot
easier and earlier.
