Hi all,
I think that the this discussion is moving in a wrong direction. What I
wanted to stress was that the disclaimers that are used by corporates
are totally inappropriate for mailing lists. So, they should be avoided.
I don't argue about using your firm's mail account for mailing list.
Let me explain this with the CTS disclaimer where the debate starts.
This e-mail and any files transmitted with it are for the sole use of
the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged
information.
First of all, in mailing lists, you are not clear about your
recipient(s) at all. You send the mail to the mailing list and you don't
have any idea about who are all the persons who are going to recieve it.
More over, mails send to a public list cannot (may not) contain
confidential and privileged information.
If you are not the intended recipient, please contact the sender by
reply e-mail and destroy all copies of the original message.
The mails in the mailing lists are going to be archived. So, any person
who is not in the mailing list, going through the archive is affected by
this statement. Should he mail to the sender that he read that mail or so?
Any unauthorised review, use, disclosure, dissemination, forwarding,
printing or copying of this email or any action taken in reliance on
this e-mail is strictly prohibited and may be unlawful.
Assume that a person posted a solution for a problem with this
disclaimer. This disclaimer means that others should not use that
solution, should not suggest the same solution to others, etc. This is
**totally against** the purpose of mailing lists.
That is why I argued that this sort of disclaimers should not be used in
public mailing list. Forget about the bandwidth, forget about the
disturbance to others. It's the matter of **FREEDOM**.
Hope this should make everyone to say **NO FOR DISCLAIMERS**
PS: I am very serious about this is because long time ago, I got blasted
in help-emacs@xxxxxxx by a GNU member for using disclaimer like this.
