a presentation on Project InfraNET
by Vijay Anad (this not about .Net - it's a really cool project
to bring IT infrastructure to governement bodies).
could you elaborate on this - i am interested, but google didnt
throw up anything specific
Sure. Vijay is a Canadian-Indian, trying to bring in a National ID kind
of infrastructure to India. He says that it's very sad that we don't
even have an account of the deaths in the lower strata in the society.
As a first step, he is trying to get the local governments at least have
a good list of people who are living in their constituencies. Each will
be given an ID, which can be used for different purposes like voter id,
ration card id, etc. Also, all government bodies will check with this id
to provide any kind of service, and keep records based on this id.
What is liked about the project is its scope. It's simply mind-boggling
to imagine getting an id to every person in this country. Obviously,
Vijay does a better job of explaining what it is all about. You can
write to him at vijay AT leadstep D0T com and find out his plans. He is
looking for some good programmers to work on his ideas. Anybody
interested, please write to him. He's passionate about this idea and
fascinating to talk to.
Vamsee.
