Summary: can't connect to BSNL broadband for the last four days.
Here's my configuration:
OS: FC3 Linux, user space patched, stock kernel
PPPoE: 3.5-22
ADSL Modem: UTStar
This configuration was working fine with the Home-1000 plan until 4 days
ago. All of a sudden, it stopped connecting. The WAN and LAN lights on
the modem still light up. But there is no connection.
The following log messages appear in /var/log/messages each time a
connection is attempted:
May 29 14:04:44 localhost pppd[19569]: pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
May 29 14:04:44 localhost pppd[19569]: Using interface ppp0
May 29 14:04:44 localhost pppd[19569]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/2
May 29 14:05:15 localhost pppd[19569]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
May 29 14:05:15 localhost pppd[19569]: Connection terminated.
May 29 14:05:19 localhost pppoe[19580]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets
May 29 14:05:19 localhost pppd[19569]: Exit.
May 29 14:05:19 localhost adsl-connect: ADSL connection lost; attempting
re-connection.
May 29 14:05:24 localhost pppd[24155]: pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
May 29 14:05:24 localhost pppd[24155]: Using interface ppp0
May 29 14:05:24 localhost pppd[24155]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/2
May 29 14:05:56 localhost pppd[24155]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
May 29 14:05:56 localhost pppd[24155]: Connection terminated.
May 29 14:05:59 localhost pppoe[24156]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets
May 29 14:05:59 localhost pppd[24155]: Exit.
BSNL claims that their end of the configuration is ok and the problem
must be at my end. They claim ignorance of Linux. I did not make any
configuration changes or applied any patches when the problem started.
Not sure what I should do now. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
