Hi,
a) How do I take a screenshot of anything in Linux? (Gui I mean)... In
Windows, I would just hit printscreen and go to an image editor and get
it "paste"d. Tried but no luck, on KDE running on Knoppix/Debian.
More advanced solution.Use GIMP. From their you can chose.
File->Acquire->*
(Or)
Simple solution. If you are running GNOME, try Action->Screenshot.
b) Which is the best GUI (okay, there is nothing called the best, I
hear you say, so which is the most popular?) for Linux? I wanna stick
to one and learn that well. (Learn a GUI?? Yeah, unlike Windows, I
already see the Linux GUIs oozing with power and productivity-boosts if
only you know how to "do" it right).
Most people prefer KDE, but it is bloated and a memory hog (though I
heared KDE 3.2 is better in performance). For me (who is a developer)
GNOME is really a better desktop. If you (in future) want to develop
linux applications, then you may find GTK+/GNOME libraries a lot more
better option than QT/KDE. So choose your desktop by considering all
the options.
c) If you don't want me to waste your time with questions like a and b,
answer d at least.
Atleast for you first question, Google can answer, why not try it? I'm
quite sure that you may end with lot more results than posting it in
mailinglists.
d) Is there a website for Linux-Newbies (particularly winusers in
previous avatar)? Where they explain answers for stuff like a and b?
Checkout the desktop websites
http://gnome.org http://gnomedesktop.org
http://kde.org
google for x window managers
And the most important one
http://tldp.org ;(The Linux documentation project)
Use IRC (XChat)
http://www.linuxquestions.org/
http://www.google.com/search?q=linux+newbies
At last,
http://google.com/linux
If you want you can get Mandrake 10.0 - 3 CDs from me.
Thanks in advance.
Rajendran.
