Hi,
For a remote data acquisition project, I need a Linux box connected to the
internet through 3G. I have gone through list archives, but the threads are
over a year old and want some current information. Is there any 3G service
provider with:
- A modem which simply works out of the box. I will be
installing Debian base with no X and hence cannot use any GUI based
configuration tool which they might provide.
- Good upload speeds (at least 800 kbps)
Can you not install one of the 3G data USB data cards? I believe most
of them work out of the box with wvdial (i.e. no GUI). What works on
a laptop should also work on a desktop USB port.
I suspect most 3G data providers have a much lower "upload" speeds
since the services are consumer oriented i.e. upstream packets are
mostly http url strings. I do not have a 3G USB dongle so no
personal experience with upload speeds.
@ members of the ILUG-Chennai list can you share your speed test
results from (traffic going over USB data cards)
