Kevin,

I think this has a two-fold answer. The first reason to use negative
planes is the gerber file is much smaller; hence easier for electronic
transport. Secondly, if the positive dynamic shape works so well (which
it does), why wouldn't the negative shape work as well? It would be
better if it didn't work at all rather than the intermittent behavior it
now exhibits. I think Cadence should be able to answer it.

I, personally, am really happy with the dynamic planes.
I have had very few (virtually none) problems that have not turned out
to be some dumb "I didn't know" problem on my part.
I especially like the properties that allow me to tailor individual pins
and stuff to get special spacing, line widths and all the other stuff it
lets me do. And it seems very fast to respond to the changes. Of course,
I only use positive plane layers to generate my plane data. Why don't
you? What do you gain by using negative plane layers?
