When you enter the speech settings dialog, the first thing you see is the key echo setting. If you arrow down, you see the punctuation level. Arrow down below that and you'll find the various voices. The first is the default voice. if you arrow down again, there's the Braille Voice, just keep arrowing down to go through the various voices. If you want to change the sound of a given voice, place your cursor on it and use 1 and 3 to adjust the pitch, 4 and 6 to adjust the speed, and 7 and 9 to cycle through the available voice personalities.

Thank you Pamela.  I was able to set all voices to the default.  I noticed
later that there were some voices I might've preferred for the default, like 
the voice from reply 2 or reply 1, but once I made the change to have one
voice for everything, those different voices were no longer available to
choose from? How does one locate them again to choose a default voice among 
them?  I've tried the menu in the speech settings menu, but they don't
appear to be there any more.

If you spend some time in the Settings menu, you can go through and adjust
each voice to your liking. You can even set it so that it uses the Default 
Voice for everything.  However, you'll have to go through and change the
voice on each one so that it is set to Default Voice.

You can use Control O to open a new page.

any page we want, or are  there other ways?
Also, is there a way to change the unit's voice so that I don't have to hear 
that high pitched
