Changes made as requested, includes the following description of signal
name, CAD Net and Extended Net:
An [EMD Model] defines an interconnect model between the external pin(s) of
the module and the pins of the designators in the module. A designator is
either an IBIS .ibs or an EMD .emd file.
Pins in the EMD Pin List and the Designaor Pin List that have the same
signal_name are connected. Two pins are connected if there is a low
impedance connection between them at the Nyquist frequency. It will be
common for EMD files to be generated automatically from CAD layout data
bases. Each pin in a CAD data base has a CAD Net, and when two pins have the
same CAD Net they are connected. Normally the signal_name of EMD Pins and
Designators pins will be the same as their CAD Net in the layout data base.
An exception to this is when when there are series terminations and parallel
terminations. In thei case the model maker can chose to either:
1. Combine two CAD Nets into an Extended Net. All of the pins in the
two CAD Nets will use the Externded Net name as their signal_name in the EMD
The termination resistor or capacitor would be include the the interconnect
model for this Extended Net.
2. Create separate interconnect models for each CAD Net. There will
need to be a Designator for the termination component.
