Review of Minutes:
- Michael called for review of the minutes from the January 4 meeting. Mike
LaBonte moved to approve the minutes. Bob Ross seconded. The minutes were
approved without objection.

Interconnect BIRD draft 46:
Randy Wolff noted that we left off on his comment on page 17 under Usage Rules
for the .ims files section. He noted that the highlight text is an almost word
for word copy from page 15. Michael asked where is the correct place for these
rules. Bob noted the EBD section in IBIS has a similar table with rules that
he thinks are defined after the table. Randy thought that placing the rules
after the table makes more sense. Michael deleted the repetitive rules from
page 15 while retaining those on page 17.
Randy had another comment on page 26 in regards to Example 1 and the mention of
BIRD 182. Michael agreed that the comment can be removed now that the BIRD 182
has been approved. Michael asked if the [Pin Mapping] data is necessary given
BIRD 182. Bob noted that it is optional and the pins can be mixed and matched
in terms of the naming. Randy suggested to add a note saying that the pins
below the comment are optional.
Randy had a third comment on page 35 in regards to Example 9. There is a note
that reads "since there are no terminal conflicts with this set, this should
work", which he believes does not make sense. Randy also commented that there
are some differences in how the IOs connect between pin to pad to buffer
between examples 8 and 9. Bob noted that the PDN is the same for both Examples
8 and 9. Randy noted that Example 9 looks correct to him and that the sentence
is not necessary.
Randy mention that on page 37 there is another reference to BIRD 182. He
suggested to change the wording of the comment in similar to Example 1.
Michael changed the comment wording to reflect the optionality of including the
pins in the [Pin Mapping]. Bob stated that we have several different ways of
doing Pin Mapping. He suggested to state that in the example's comments that
it is per [Pin Mapping] and [Bus Label] rules.
Bob had a comment on page 5 that per the new file extension BIRD, he suggested
to delete the sentence that states "The file names and extensions shall be
lower case."
Bob suggested to remove the [Interconnect Model Set Selector] example on page
5, as there is a lot going on in this example. He suggested to instead have a
simpler example with All_pins_iss and All_pins_touchstone sets.
Bob suggested on page 6 to add a rule that [Bus Label] is followed by
signal_name as a column heading. And he suggested to limit the [Bus Label]
name to 15 characters to make it consistent with the rest of IBIS. He also
suggested to remove the restriction that bus_lable name and signal_name name
have to be different.
Bob suggested some changes to the [Die Supply Pads] section. He added a
sentence that "The [Die Supply Pads] keyword is followed by signal_name and
bus_label as column headings". Walter Katz thought that these column headings
should not be required, as they are technically not necessary for parsing. Bob
commented that the column headings are checked by the parser. Walter stated
that his position is that the ease of getting things into the parser should not
be a key consideration in the decisions of this group. Bob noted that his
concern is for consistency of the IBIS specification. His position is that the
parser can handle not having the column headings, but he would prefer that they
be required to be consistent with other similar keywords such as [Pin Mapping]
and [Pin].
Bob proposed on page 10 to add distinctions for uncoupled and coupled models.
Arpad questioned the wording and asked what is meant here. Walter mentioned
that he prefers the term "crosstalk". Mike asked about the similar and
different phrases in Bob's suggested text, as he was expecting to see more
explanations about how the groups could be similar and different.
Michael will put together a new draft with some of these changes for next
time.
