Mike LaBonte convened the meeting. No patents were declared.
Justin Butterfield took minutes.
Review of Minutes:
- Mike called for review of the minutes from the January 10 meeting. Randy
Wolff moved to approve the minutes. Bob Ross seconded. The minutes were
approved without objection.
Review of ARs:
- Bob to send out BIRD189.5_draft15_v3.
- Bob reported that this is done.
- Mike to send out a comparison between BIRD189.5_draft15_v3 and
BIRD189.5_draft14.
- Mike reported that this is done.
- Walter noted that he sent some out some comments and proposed changes based
on this comparison.
Opens:
- Walter proposed to look at BIRD189.5_draft15_v4 that Bob had updated based on
his comments. Bob noted the version inside that document is a mistake. Walter
suggested to resolve draft15 changes before taking up other topics. Mike
agreed.
BIRD189.5_draft15_v4 review:
Bob noted he made some grammatical corrections. Mike suggested to look at any
places that might be functional changes to the document. Bob stated that his
goal was for the document to be functionally complete. For instance in the
rail terminal rules section, he wanted to detail the various ways of
connecting rail terminals. Walter asked about the rail terminal rule: "At the
pin interface, a Pin_Rail terminal name may not appear...". He thought this
is the first rule and suggested to put everything before this rule in a
General Description section. Bob agreed with this change.
Walter asked about his suggestion for changing the unused terminal section
based on Radek's comments. Bob noted that this is done.
Mike asked about the first two bullets under the rail terminal rules. He
asked about the term "Pin_Rail terminal name" and if this should be more
specific with signal_name. Walter noted it could also be a bus_label. Bob
commented that we are really referring to the terminal Qualifier_entry.
Walter stated that a Pin_Rail may not appear in more than one PDN network and
anyone pin in the pin_list can not appear in two different PDN models. He
noted that when you use the signal_name, it includes all the pins. And, this
is a rule on the pins. Mike asked if there is a more clear way to describe
these rules. Walter suggested to change the first rule to: "A Pin_Rail
pin_name may not appear in terminals in more than one PDN Interconnect Model
in the Interconnect Model Group". Bob expressed concern that the rule should
expand beyond this. Walter stated that he will rewrite this rule and send out
revised text. Mike commented he still has an issue with the word "name" in
the second rule under the rail terminal rules. Walter said he will rewrite
the rail terminal rules section clarifying the term "name" [AR]. Bob will
send out BIRD189.5_draft15_v5 [AR].
Bob commented that when the term "name" is used we really mean pin. Walter
noted that the goal of the rules is that we do not want overlapping terminal
assignments.
Editorial List:
Walter asked about the editorial list and if items can be removed from the
list. Bob noted that items 1 and 2 in the list were done. Walter asked if
items 3 and 4 are complete in Bob's BIRD189.5_draft15_v4. Bob stated that
these are complete. Mike asked if we need to resolve "may" vs. "shall" in
other places in the document. Bob suggested to leave item 3 on the list.
Walter noted that items 5 and 6 are still not done. Walter asked if someone
can add the A_gnd syntax example. Bob stated that this would not be difficult
to do.
Mike asked if Requirements 12 and 15 can be deleted. Walter noted that he
added the last sentence to Requirement 12 which allows for completing the full
path. Mike suggested to move that sentence to the comments column. Mike also
suggested to delete Requirement 15. Bob noted that in the Requirements
section we use term "Legacy Package Models", while we do not want to use this
term in the actual IBIS specification. Since the requirements will not be in
the IBIS specification, Bob stated that he is okay with using the word
"legacy". Walter noted that Requirement 8 defines "Legacy Package Models".
Walter will make these changes to the Requirements section in Bob's version5
document [AR].
Walter asked about the Aggressor graphic, as he has some questions on the
additional example made by Arpad. Mike suggested to defer the discussion on
the graphic to the ATM meeting next week.
Bob noted he has some concern in the Background/History section with paragraph
that starts: "Some concern has been noted that EDA ...". This section lists a
process, but he is not sure that this process is valid any more. Walter
agreed. Bob suggested to add a note that this paragraph no longer applies to
the the [Interconnect Model] keyword. Mike commented that this is an example
flow. Walter stated that he would be okay with adding this note, but he
suggested for Bob to submit a formal proposal in an email.
Mike stated that he would like to establish and publish draft 15 as the
official working version in the next meeting.

The next meeting will be January 17.
Walter moved to adjourn. Bob seconded. The meeting adjourned without
objection.

1. Resolve the comments in the document (e.g., on page 26, addressing âmayâ
vs. âshould/shallâ)
2. Add a new example showing the A_gnd syntax
