In the IBIS Editorial meeting yesterday we began to address the
organization of reserved AMI parameters. I can't join the meeting today,
but wanted to make some observations. Reserved parameters are defined in
10.4 through 10.11, but the section titles, level, and content are
inconsistent:
* 10.4 GENERAL RESERVED PARAMETERS
* 10.5 Reserved Parameters for Data Management
* 10.6 Jitter and Noise Reserved Parameters
* 10.6.1 RECEIVER RECOVERED CLOCK RESERVED PARAMETERS
* 10.6.1.1 RECEIVER JITTER RESERVED PARAMETERS
* 10.6.2 RECEIVER NOISE RESERVED PARAMETERS
* 10.7 Modulation Reserved Parameters
* 10.8 Repeaters
* 10.9 AMI Reserved Parameter DEFINITIONs For Link training
Communications
* 10.10 ALTERNATIVE AMI ANALOG BUFFER MODELING (defines no
parameters)
* 10.11 Reserved Parameter DEFINITIONs
My thoughts:
1. Some sections have more technical description than others, ahead
of the parameter definitions. Repeater, for example. But maybe all titles
still should begin with something like "AMI Reserved Parameters for X".
2. 10.10 and 10.11 should be merged. 10.10 has the description, 10.11
defines the parameters for it.
3. There are so many jitter parameters, some breakdown into
subsections might be warranted. They can be separated by Tx/Rx, for
example. But there is one set of tables that applies to all of them.
Therefore we might use unnumbered sub-section headings instead of numbered
ones, to organize them. They might simply be split into Tx and Rx. The
tables would still be at the end of the single numbered section, probably
with its own unnumbered sub-section heading.
