I uploaded the paper I will be presenting in New Orleans at the IASPM-US

Actually, the main reason I decided to go to New Orleans was to talk a bit
with the collector of mechanical music instruments (nowadays he is
restoring fortepianos and the like...) from whom I got a 1865 music box
with a tune I have been following/researching for a certain time.
I want to talk about what kind of mechanical music was used in the
theatrinhos mecânicos (mechanical little theaters), announced mainly in the
1830s in Rio de Janeiro's newspapers. Were they clock mechanisms coupled
with the dolls or only the mechanical movement of the figures accompanied
by the sound of the street organ operated by an enslaved African, a
commodity that was so cheap and available at the time?
