I am glad to know that we'll continue to count on your support for many
other initiatives and battles, all over the world, for school libraries

Today is my last day as President of IASL, and I shall be handing over to
a new President at the AGM in Tokyo this afternoon. Before I do so, I want
to thank each and every one of you for the support you have given me.
I have served as President for six years, and it is now time to pass the
baton to someone else. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to serve the
association in a leadership position, but I could not have done it without
your support. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be of service,
and to play a role in the development of school librarianship in many
countries across the world.
The support I received from members made my job easier, and my sincere
thanks go to everyone. Special thanks go to all Board members, Executive
Directors – past and present, Committee Chairs, SIG Chairs, and all others
for the support they have given me. IASL has grown over the years with new
programs, awards, publications, communication channels, collaborations and
continued professional development opportunities. I believe they have been
useful as we try to fulfill our mission of developing school libraries
across the world.
The past six years have also been a tremendous growth opportunity for me,
and there is much that I have learned through meetings and interactions
with people ranging from top Government officials to teacher-librarians and
students, and many other stakeholders, as well as through readings, and
just listening and observing. That knowledge is invaluable and I am happy
to share it.
I intend to continue to be involved in the development of school
librarianship, although I am not clear as yet on the role I shall be
playing. But if I can be of assistance to you – whether individually, to
your organization or to your country – in any way, please feel free to ask.
A new President will be elected at the AGM this afternoon, and I ask each
and every one to give her the same support as you have given me.
Once again, thank you for the opportunity to be of service and your
support over the past six years, and I wish you every success.
