If you are using ISA, then your performance may vary. On 486's that use, I've only been able to get up to 3 megabits per second. The latency wasn't noticable, it only added about 5 ms to ping times on the UNL network - again, this was on ISA. On the PCI systems I've used, the latency was 1 or lower ms added to the ping times.
