Humbanders,
This morning I was finally able to catch the Black-chinned Hummingbird
that we have seen in our yard on and off this winter. It was (as I had
hoped) my old friend E58693, a female that I banded in our yard on
December 21, 2008 making her 10 years old and this the 10th winter she
has spent in our yard. I thought this might break the longevity record
but alas there is a record of a female from Texas that was 11 years 2
months old. Maybe next winter! It was good to see her at any rate. She
was doing fine. Gobbled up a bunch of nectar before I let her go. She
has a bunch of dark spots in her gorget now, not purple but black which
is a sign of her age. Great stuff!
