Hello everybody,

the HIPL project has just transitioned to the external code/project hosting
platform launchpad.net. This step reflects the collaboration of the Helsinki
Institute for Information Technology (HIIT), Aalto University and the
Distributed Systems Group located at RWTH Aachen. As experienced users and
developers of HIPL, you are of course all very welcome to keep on reporting
bugs (now through the launchpad interface) and to submit code contributions
(working patches as well as stable functionality extensions). Still, note that
the current development focus will be the stabilization of the HIPL feature-set
and the functional hardening of the existing daemon programs.

Another aspect to the transition is our belief that hosting the project at a
more visible portal will result in higher contributions from the open source
community. So, please, tell your friends and collegues - who might be
interested in protocol development and deployment - about this step towards a
public and open source development model and ask them to contact the project
through lauchpad.net or this mailinglist.

What has changed technically?
(1) The project's source browser, bugtracker and FAQ will now be hosted at
http://launchpad.net/hipl
(2) There is a new IRC channel for real-time discussion: #hipl at
chat.freenode.net
(3) You can get the source code (also as an unregistered user) by running: bzr
co lp:hipl
(4) You can register your own code modifications in launchpad.net and propose
to merge them to HIPL.
(5) You need to register through launchpad.net for direct commit rights to HIPL
trunk.

What stays unchanged?
(1) Mailinglist will not be affected by this change.
(2) The project's webpage including the manual will stay the same.

We hope this step also is in your best interest.

Thanks,
René Hummen
