To all the breastfeeding supporters on the Big Island-Aloha and Happy World
Breastfeeding Week! As I am sure you all know , August 1-7th has been
internationally cerebrated as World Breastfeeding Week for over 20 years. Rules
and laws and perceptions have all gone through changes in that time . Many have
been great for the nursing families here on the Big Island with the help of
supporters like you. Every August, however I find this the perfect time to stop
and look around to see if maybe a few things are slipping -few things need
more clarity .There are still mothers wanting to breastfeed that don't get the
support and education they need to reach their personal breastfeeding goals
and many don't have the knowledge of the laws of our state that are set up to
back them up. So a group of us at the East Hawaii Consortia have worked on
this handout . It is simple and clear with just the few steps a business
would need to take to be in compliance with our State Law # 249. You may change
the contact names on the back of the trifold to reflect the support people or
groups in your area . Make copies and pass them out to anyone who might
benefit, Mothers -grandparents -businesses -ETC!!!!! Thanks and keep up
the good work by encouraging breastfeeding awareness.
