Hi everyone,
The mailbox area continues to be burglarized on an almost daily basis.
We are taking the following actions:
1. The HOA is in contact with the post office to let them know to hold
the community's mail. A sign will also be placed on the mailboxes to
make the mail carrier aware not to deliver mail due to the continuing
thefts. Packages will likely continue to be delivered to people's front
doors, but that decision is left up to the postal carrier. Go to the
400 Pryor St SW location with a photo ID to pick up your mail. The
location is open 9-6 M-F and 9-1 on Saturday.
2. We will be installing two security cameras to monitor the mailbox
area, since the thieves continue to target our neighborhood. These
cameras will not be monitored, however, if a crime is committed, the
footage will be reviewed. The plan is to install them this week.
3. The gate code was changed on Friday (the 1219 code no longer works).
The new code was distributed via CMA's email distribution system. Some
people have reported that they have not received the new code. Please
email me directly with your full name, unit number, and phone number if
you need the new code. I will compile this information and provide it
to Clara, so that you are added to that list.
4. Beware of tailgaters. If you see a white Volkswagen Passat without a
license plate in the neighborhood, then it likely belongs to the
thieves. They might park it near the dumpster again in order to make a
quick getaway.
5. The HOA has decided upon the vendor and style for the replacement
mailboxes. I will be in touch with the vendor on Monday to get the
process started. The goal is to have new mailboxes with the exact same
configuration as the current mailboxes. Old locks and mailbox numbers
will be reused on the new mailboxes. All of this is assuming that the
proposed model is more tamper/theft resistant than the existing
mailboxes.
6. Everyone is asking when we might expect to see the new mailboxes
installed. The order must be placed, the new mailboxes must be
manufactured, and an installation date needs to be set. Assuming that
we can do a one-to-one replacement, expect mail delivery to resume no
earlier than November 11th.
This is all of the information that we have at the moment. As soon as I
have any updates on the project or timeline, I will share the news.
