Hello All
There are a couple of messages that follow, an update on the construction plans
for the renovation of our Flight Center and also a request for 2017 donations
to be moved up as early as possible, but first the construction update. Karin
Schlosser, Janell Sullivan, and Jim Doane have been putting in a lot of hours
pulling the final details together, we owe them a hearty thank you. The
professional engineer we have employed, Jerry Wozniak, is reviewing the
drawings, and later this week we will send contractors a request for their
quotes to refurbish and enlarge our Flight Center. We expect to have their
responses by the second week in September. The big question for us is how will
their quotes compare with our cost model? We’ll find out, and expect to start
construction in mid October. There are contingency plans established to reduce
the scope of the project if contractor quotes come in higher than expected, so
one way or another we will have a new facility next year.
We will finance, another word for borrow, to cover the donations that are
pledged for the latter part of this year and the years 2018 through 2020. If
you can move your contributions ahead sending them to us before the start of
construction you can help reduce the finance costs of covering future
contributions. This will be greatly appreciated, the directions for making
this happen are at the end of this message.
An update will be sent to everyone toward the middle of September after we look
at the returned quotes and have firm plans in place for the start of
construction. The Octoberfest Picnic will be the last celebration before the
construction starts, so you may want to get this date on your calendars as soon
as it is announced.
Thanks to all for what you have done to support and encourage this process,
it’s been close to a three year journey for us and we a close to being able to
break ground.
