Ron, You can also consult the online ARRL Technical Information Service if you haven't already done so. And the folks at the TIS are really helpful if you email them about the problem ("tis@xxxxxxxx" unless it's been changed recently). Like Bill mentioned - if your signal is getting into the cable, then theirs is getting out of the cable. And since their signals can interfere with aircraft navigation, they might want to be careful about calling the FCC. Is the interference also in your house and electronics? If you have no interference and you have the beacon at your home, it might not be your beacon causing the problems. If anyone near you (or a library) has a copy of the ARRL RFI book, this could also be helpful. You can also search online for a copy. It specifically addresses cable TV interference in Chapter 7 (at least in the 2nd edition). And there's always the possibility that your signals are getting into your neighbor's homes through a problem in the cable TV equipment. If you've had no complaints until recently and haven't made any changes (and all connections, etc. check good), it doesn't sound like it's your system. Of course all electronic equipment can have a bad component, so you might want to try monitoring your beacon signal on a nearby radio for any emissions in the 10m band near your beacon's freq or harmonics. And you can call the cable company's plant manager or chief engineer/technician. They are probably more experienced than most of the crews out on the road, and may have heard of a similar problem/solution before yours occurred. Being nice doesn't hurt, they do have some nice folks that are willing to work with people, especially if you have lots of evidence/data about when you were operating, whether you also have the interference in your home or not, and if you have any info about possible interference from their system. Listen to the 108-136 band (AM) for any interference. That's the aircraft band, but if you're close to an airport or navigation aid you might hear them. And some of the cable leakage may be from poorly shielded TV's, VCRs, or FM tuners. Anybody nearby purchase a new piece of equipment about the time your interference complaints started? I did have great luck with the power company engineer in my Mom's town when she had bad power line interference. They traced the problem to some bad hardware and were able to schedule the repairs instead of having an unplanned outage (that made the line crew happy). The engineer even kept me updated via email and was really nice to work with. I know it's a different utility, be still had to deal with people. I did pass on the details/solution to the ARRL RFI folks. Some cable systems have Channel 2 on approx 55-59 MHz (about 28 MHz X 2) and Channel D and E on roughly 139-149 MHz (I combined audio and video freqs). This is approx 28 MHz X 5 or 6. Ok, you asked me what time it was and I built a watch. Sorry for the verbosity, but hope it helps keep you on the air. Best of luck with the problem, and let us all know how it goes, Mike, N4VBV Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile -----Original Message----- From: ron <k4jee@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sender: hfbeacons-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2012 16:11:30 To: <hfbeacons@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Reply-To: hfbeacons@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [HFbeacons] Re: Beacons 30 March 2012 Hello Bill Well I have a problem here.It might be with my beacon. But I'm not sure yet. I cut the beacon power back from 25 watts to 5 watts now to see If the problem is still there. If It Is I will take the beacon off the air until I can figure out whats going on.I have a Ham friend that works for the cable company here. He had a tech come to him and asked him if he new a ham that lived on my street. I was told I'm getting in TV's,telephones and all there electronic devices in there homes and there are 3 different homes this is happening to.My wife one day had a knock on the door and they asked if they could talk to me and she told them I was at work.Than he told her the interference is going on now.So the only thing it could be is the beacon. The cable tech said that he is seeing a spike on his spectrum analizer.Oh well I'll keep you posted .No neighbors have come to me yet but I was told the tech told my neighbors that nothing was wrong at there homes and said they might want to write the FCC.
