Hi, Keith here in Amherst, NYI was in & out of the shack and split my time between chores, DX Contest and monitoring the bands. Quite a mix, I got into the shack too late for European beacons but worked 10 or 11 EU countries on the contest. About 2 PM local (1900Z), we had an intense, but very localized E-Skip opening into TX and then F2 & TE until I had to leave at 2315Z.
Here's the list from 1800Z to 2315Z on 02 March: 28.1650 XE2O - 589 28.1828 XE1RCS - 569 28.1895 LU2DT - CW & PSK Id's, 559 28.1930 LU2ERC - 559 28.1969 LU5FB - 439 28.2000 LU4AA (ESP Level even at 100 watts) 28.2000 W6WX (429, only 2 power levels) 28.2032 PY2WGF - Chirping away! 569C 28.2220 K6JCA - Weak, 319 28.2230 KP3FT - 579 28.2244 K5GJR - 599 28.2250 K6FRC/B4 - 439 28.2256 W2DLL - 559 on groundwave 28.2266 PU4CBB - 579 28.2500 K6FRC/B2 - 579 28.2800 K5AB - 599 +30 on a short E-Skip opening 28.3000 K6FRC/B - 439What's amazing is what I didn't hear, no other beacons on 200, no 7's, nothing from NP4LW, no other groundwave signals from the other beacons around me. Still, 17 beacons, better than a sharp stick in the eye any day!
A report on Spaceweather.com indicated that the last two cycles, Cycles 22 and 23 had twin peaks. Right now, NASA is prediction a twin peak for Cycle 24 with the second peak in mid 2014, again, better than a sharp stick in the eye!
Wear your safety glasses and keep listening... 73, Keith, WB2VUO Amherst, NY: Grid FN02ox ____________________ The HFbeacons mailing list information: //www.freelists.org/webpage/hfbeacons
