If you happen to have a Yeasu FT-857D sitting on your bench, it has a built-in
CW memory keyer and makes an excellent beacon. Message programming is done
from the front panel. While it would be a little excessive for most hams to
buy an FT-857D just for use as a 10M beacon, it works very well for that
purpose if you already have one taking up space. With a little imagination, it
could also work semi-simultaneously as a beacon on 6 meters, 2 meters, and 70
cm with some sort of sequencer circuit connected to the CAT control port to
automatically switch bands.
