Subject: [heraldnegindex] Herald Archive Project - inventory
Dear all,
Further to my earlier emails, I have arranged to meet Hilary Roberts, our
technical adviser, at the Herald offices in West Street on Friday June 10th at
11am to look at the bound Herald volumes and how we go about adding them to the
inventory which will guide the way forward for the project.
It would be good if one or two of you could join us (Karen has already signed
up!) as you will then be in a positions to advise others as the inventory check
proceeds. (On June 10th we will only look at the format of the inventory – not
carry out the “counting”.)
I have attached Hilary’s sample inventory form for your information but this
will undoubtedly be modified after this initial meeting and then what needs to
go in which column.
On the 10th there will be a chance to see the bound volumes stored in the
cellar and also those in a very interesting ancient warehouse in Harts Yard. If
you take on the challenge of work on the inventory you will get quite familiar
with those two locations though I suspect the work will be completed within a
couple of visits (access is being limited to one hour at a time to ensure your
health and safety – the cellar particularly is very warm!)
At a later date we will hold another investigating session with Hilary at the
Museum of Farnham and its off-site store to conduct similar assessment of the
negatives and microfilm. I will ask for volunteers for those once the date is
settled.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are able to join us for a couple
of hours on June 10th.
