I woke up yesterday morning to one Pine Siskin mixed in with my goldfinch
flock. After the first snowflake fell at 8:44 a.m. yesterday (Friday 1/22/16),
the siskin population grew steadily until I by mid-afternoon I had at least 25.
With five feeders and three suet cakes, it's hard to get a good count but as
the storm begins to wane a bit today (Saturday) I still have at least 25
siskins, 8 Purple Finches, and NO House Finches. All the other regulars are
here in good numbers.
I have one lonesome Song Sparrow in the yard but it hasn't come to the feeder,
preferring instead the tall seed heads in the less-mowed places. It pays to be
lazy in the fall and leave some of those weedy patches!
