Hi everyone, Apologies in advance for cross-posting but I feel you are all familiar with the Rodeo refinery and most live in its environ and as such are also stakeholders in this. I'm forwarding this as a matter of FYI only, as I'm sure we all have our individual opinions of the pros and cons of the refinery. As for me though, one of the segments I really hate riding through is the Rodeo refinery and I always joke that passing through it is your daily dose of toxins. Hope to ride with you guys tomorrow for our turkey ride. Cheers! -bochie ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: "Jess Dervin-Ackerman, Sierra Club" <sierra@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: kapitan_emman@xxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, November 26, 2014 11:35 AM Subject: All risk and no reward for the Bay Area Sierra Club#yiv7482917296 BODY {font-family:arial, sans-serif;font-size:11pt;COLOR:#333333;}#yiv7482917296 div, #yiv7482917296 p, #yiv7482917296 a, #yiv7482917296 li, #yiv7482917296 td {font-family:arial, sans-serif;font-size:11pt;color:#333333;}#yiv7482917296 .yiv7482917296credit {font-size:10pt;color:#333333;}#yiv7482917296 .yiv7482917296login {font-size:8pt;color:#333333;}#yiv7482917296 .yiv7482917296boxtext {font-size:10pt;color:#333333;}#yiv7482917296 .yiv7482917296actiontext {font-size:16pt;color:#01669b;font-weight:bold;}#yiv7482917296 #yiv7482917296box {border:2px solid #efefef;}#yiv7482917296 #yiv7482917296navbox {border:2px solid #ccc;padding:5px;background-color:#efefef;}#yiv7482917296 #yiv7482917296 a {color:#41679f;}#yiv7482917296 a:hover {color:#41679f;text-decoration:underline;}#yiv7482917296 a:visited {color:#6785b2;}#yiv7482917296 #yiv7482917296 #yiv7482917296 | | | | | Expanding oil refineries in the Bay Area is simply all risk and no reward for our communities. Take a moment to say NO to Phillips 66's Rodeo expansion plan. Toxic smoke from the 2012 Richmond refinery fire | | | Dear Emmanuel, We've all seen the massive oil refinery complexes, pumping smoke and chemicals into the air we breathe. We've all seen the dangerous oil trains that carry their explosive cargo through the Bay Area. We all remember the 2012 Richmond refinery fire that forced more than 15,000 people to seek medical treatment. Now Phillips 66 wants to construct six huge propane storage tanks and two new rail spurs to ship propane and butane -- abundant components of dirty tar sands and Bakken crude -- out of their Rodeo refinery. What this would mean for us is more trains, more eyesores, more pollution and more danger. Luckily, we have a chance to stop this fossil fuel expansion. Tell the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors that this project can't be approved without a thorough and comprehensive environmental and safety assessment. Last year, the Board of Supervisors released a draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) that was lacking in many ways, including its assessment of the safety risks, air and water pollution risks, and the combined impact of a related proposal to expand the Phillips 66 Santa Maria refinery. Due to these inadequacies, the EIR has been appealed, and now we have a chance to make sure the Board of Supervisors gets it right. This is key to protecting our Bay Area communities from the out-of-control expansion of fossil fuel refineries and explosive oil trains. Take action now to voice your opposition to this proposal that will just lead to more pollution, more climate change and more risks for our communities.
