Hello all,
Thank you for inviting me to join the board, and I'm excited to work more
closely between HCAS and the App State chapter!
If I haven't met you in person yet, my name is Will Bennett and I came to
Boone in 2021 from Durham. I'm an undergrad senior at App studying
geography/GIS, and will graduate next year with a Master's.
I'm interested in birds (of course), invasive species, and
conservation/parks. I'll probably be doing a thesis next year looking at
when our nasty friend Japanese stiltgrass puts out seeds based on elevation
and climate.
Last year I was Treasurer of the App State chapter, and in the fall I took
over from Adrianna as President of the club. This spring I want to continue
our window-collision surveys during migration, do more stream
cleanup/invasive removal workdays, and lead more bird walks for students.
We also want to work with Watauga Riverkeeper and Blue Ridge Conservancy to
assist their work, and continue joint walks with the Lees-McRae club.
Also, I will be doing bird surveys up here in the summer for the NC Bird
Atlas! Two other techs and I will be focusing on blocks in Ashe, Watuaga,
and Wilkes counties.
