He doesn’t really say what he wants from us, except a partner. I think we
should ask what he’s looking for. And, of course, we don’t cover Burke County

Hello!
My name is Chris Collins and I am a biology instructor at the brand new NC
School of Science and Math campus here in Morganton. I have lived and taught
in Burke County for the last 10 years. Over those years I had developed a
massive school garden, greenhouse, wildlife gardens, and a small fruit tree
orchard at my previous school. Our school garden attracted many species of
local birds and my students loved going out into the woods for bird watching
activities. I want to start something more formal here at my new school and
have drafted a proposal for a short introductory ornithology course for our
month-long January term.
I would love to potentially partner with a local Audubon group and get my
students involved in both enjoying the hobby as well as exploring the
conservation work being done. I have many students who are already interested
in learning more about birds so I plan to put up some bird feeders around the
campus to get them started. It is a residential campus so the students live
on campus and I think they would enjoy the break from their studies.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
