*A note from the coordinator...*
It has been a sad week as the Handiham Program experienced an unexpected
loss of a valuable volunteer. Robb Morin, KD0OJE, died last Saturday. Robb
and his wife, Lynne, KA1AAM, volunteered at Radio Camp several times over
the years, and both the campers and volunteers alike appreciated his help.
He touched many lives, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Many thanks for all the comments that have come in so far both in support
of and against the ARRL proposal for expanded HF privileges for Technician
class operators. The request includes some phone privileges in the 75, 40,
and 15 meter bands along with RTTY and digital mode privileges on the 80,
40, 15, and 10 meter bands. I will post the comments in the E-Letter in the
next couple weeks, so send in your thoughts if you have not already done
so. The Handiham Program would love to hear your opinion! You can check out

Don’t forget the time change early this Sunday! Actually, I just set my
clocks ahead before I go to bed on Saturday night.
In the Handiham Program office, there is always plenty to keep us busy.
Even though I will be out of the office next week, the E-Letter will be
published as usual. It might even be published a little earlier on
Wednesday than usual! Nancy will be in the office, so if you need anything

This week, we are including some information on the accessibility of the
iPhone, including the iPhone X, a model that replaced the home button with
gestures.

This Hadley Institute video describes how to use the VoiceOver gestures on
the iPhone X. It discusses how to interact with Siri and activate
accessibility shortcuts. It also covers the gestures for accessing Control
Center, Notification Center, the App Switcher, and how to close any open

This is another Hadley Institute video on how to use the Apple
Accessibility Features on the iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch. This video walks

Valerie Hotzfeld, NV9L, is “Amateur of the Year,” as Hamvention® Announces
Award Winners

Valerie, NV9L, known by many as one of the Co-Hosts of Ham Nation, is a fan
of DXing and contesting. She has participated in several DXpeditions over
her years as a ham. Additionally, she is known for several YouTube how-to
videos for the amateur radio community. Last year, she deployed to Puerto
Rico as a part of the American Red Cross disaster response to Hurricane
Maria, living out the amateur radio mission to serve during emergencies.

Equipment connections are beginning to take place! As a reminder, there is
some fine print that you will need to be aware of when these connections
happen.

How to find the Handiham Net:

The Handiham EchoLink conference is 494492. Connect via your iPhone,
Android phone, PC, or on a connected simplex node or repeater system in
your area.
The Handiham Net will be on the air daily. If there is no net control
station on any scheduled net day, we will have a roundtable on the air
get-together.

Our daily Echolink net continues to operate for anyone and everyone who
wishes to participate at 11:00 hours CDT (Noon Eastern and 09:00 Pacific),
as well as Wednesday evenings at 19:00 hours CDT (7 PM). If you calculate
GMT, the time difference is that GMT is six hours ahead of Minnesota time
during the winter (five hours ahead starting next week).
Doug, N6NFF, poses a trivia question in the first half of the Wednesday
evening session, so check in early if you want to take a guess. The answer
to the trivia question is generally given shortly after the half-hour mark.
