opentracker/tracker/BackgroundSomething.cpp is your friend:
the BeOS desktop is actually a maximized Tracker window
visualizing /boot/home/config/be, with the "avoid front"
window flag or something.

About WSpaces, it seems so, since it not only ignores it
(as in, does not show a white rect+title for it) but also
shows its ViewColor() instead. Maybe it looks for a BWindow
with the "avoid front" flag, dunno.
