Indeed - in the days of yore when many people browsed with a single
window (and no tabs), perhaps it made sense to have a way to quickly
go back to a search engine or "starting point" page... but these days
most people just set their preferred search engine as the default
start page, and open a new tab to get there.

True, although i think that the home button (search engine button) i getting useless thanks to a good integration of search engines in the browser. For example in chromium / firefox, i tend to type my search query directly in the url field (when i don't create a new tab).

Chrome doesn't seem to have a Home button, and until this thread, I
didn't even notice that :D


I remember wondering about that, i think they removed it only recently (getting the daily chromium builds on ubuntu).
