Hi all,
This is a difficult subject to bring up one which I believe should be
discussed.
I think the project should consider revoking Dario’s commit access.
I would vote "not at this point".
First of all, I want to point out it seems very inappropriate for
someone not part of the project to bring up the topic. It is a bit like
someone writing to my employer, asking them to consider firing me.
Fair enough.
I weighed sending the email quite carefully, but actually considered my
position
as a long-term observer possibly an advantage in raising the topic. If it was
raised by one of the contributors who has already had heated discussions with
Dario around previous commits, it may have come off as continuing a personal
vendetta and poisoned any future interactions.
I may not be “part of the project” in that I do not have commit access, but
I’m
not a drive-by troll. I’ve read every commit email since 2003, have
contributed
on mailing lists and the bug tracker, wrote some activity summaries for the
website back in the day, and met many of the longer term contributors at a
BeGeistert back in 2010 or so (I think you were there just after your GSoC
Adrien).
I have no power in the matter but care deeply about the project and want it to
succeed.
It’s seems to be the prevailing mood of those with commit access that the
balance of the sometimes challenging communication with Dario is worth it for
the quality of his work. That's great.
