Hi all,

the other day Augustin mentioned in IRC that HaikuDepot should only show GUI apps by default (based on one of the package's "provides" entries starting with "app:"), which was immediately met with resistance from Adrien, who feared that additional steps would be needed to really get all packages in search results.

A solution for the use-case that Augustin probably had in mind, which is often used by other software centers, is to show a list of recommendations as the initial screen. I am thinking in the first incarnation, the web app could simply allow administrators to flag packages as "recommended". This way, there is another source for this information other than a high rating. Later, there could be more flags like "new" (although that could be derived from the publishing date).

What do you think? Andrew, would this be easy to add?

Best regards,
-Stephan
