Indeed, it's saved as png.

"Because I didn't think about it at all" would be my unique
explanation so far. :-)

There is also more than just format and backstore issues, as I was
also wondering about resizing big dropped image all while keeping
enough details to allow the picture to be displayed at higher size
than the current 96 * 112.

It also miss an UI way to delete the picture. I don't like the idea to
add an load + delete buttons pair bellow the picture view. Would
support dragging the picture to trash or tracker pose will be enough
for this task?

Even if it's not enough, it will be nice, and I'm currently searching
an application where the drag & drop protocol is fully implemented to
do a lazy code copy & paste...
