Because by and large we still use GCC, which generates considerably
worse code here, and even if we did use Clang by default, Clang 8 will
not be the widespread default for probably at least a year?
But the same logic applies to our whole codebase, not a reason for
keeping C++ sources elsewhere and storing generated asm here?
I can live with the ARM port being a little slow for a year or more.
