Hence my confusion, since even the smallest resolution we normally
support in the loader (640x480) would require a frame buffer several
orders of magnitude larger than that, unless there are non-x86
architectures I'm not aware of where the CPU-visible frame buffer is a
tiny window into the GPU's actual memory.
