Out of curiosity: what's the purpose of this? Will there be any way to
choose between the packages?

Since there will eventually be a repository for the system packages, too, there may be multiple versions of a system package on your disk (if not in the same directory) after a system update. It makes things a lot less confusing, if not all of them have the same name.
