Could it be an option to use the stable Chromium web-kit sources instead?

Definitely, that's something i considered doing late in the contract but was running out of time and didn't wan't to ruin the reasonably good state of things. There was also a consequence for the source control workflow, as we wouldn't be a git branch of webkit but more like a patch set that we would apply on top of stable chromium webkit branches. Note that those chromium svn branches don't have git clones and that's a real pain. In the end, i tried many things, but my brain exploded eventually (i had other issues already) :)
I'm sure one of our git experts can chime in.

Example of the branch that powers the current chromium on my ubuntu 12.04: http://trac.webkit.org/log/branches/chromium/1025?limit=500 Note that our port is based on a slightly more recent rev than the latest fix they merged in, so that by chance we're close from what that chromium/1025 stable release uses.

In the end, going that way sounds like our only viable option considering the size of our webkit team and the complexity of the project. But that needs some thought about our workflow.

Alex
