#9585: Pe's keyboard shortcuts inconsistent with other apps using Dvorak keymap --------------------------+------------------------------ Reporter: Kev | Owner: nobody Type: bug | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: R1 Component: Applications | Version: R1/Development Keywords: | Blocked By: Blocking: | Has a Patch: 0 Platform: x86 | --------------------------+------------------------------ Most BeOS and Haiku apps (not to mention Windows works this way too) I've come across remap the Z/X/C/V keys for the undo/cut/copy/paste and other common shortcuts. Though it's less intuitive, it is the norm, so I would say Dvorak typists in general are used to hitting e.g. Alt+I or Ctrl+I, where I is physically the I key on the keyboard that the keymap maps to C, to copy. Pe for some reason undoes this, so you have to physically hit Alt+C even using the Dvorak keymap, which Pe correctly tells you under that keymap is Alt+J. This is confusing. You have to use one set of keyboard shortcuts under Pe and then think differently in whatever other app you are copying/pasting from/to. It should all work one way, and if you really want to do this, have some kind of preflet option in Keymap that lets you choose to either remap them all (as is normal) or DON'T remap when it comes to keyboard shortcuts (as would have been nice from the beginning and if other OSes had this support too.) I have a feeling this would be a lot more work than just changing Pe to fit the norm.
