I don't think there is a philosophy per se, probably because it's common
to open many files at once during coding (and the stacking API allows it).
Personally I find it more comfortable to be able to glance at many files
as much as I can during coding, instead of having to click tabs forth and
back and trying to remember what the code was in the previous window.
