there is source code for vesa 3 for the NewOs kernel "upon which haiku was
heavily built" that should hopefully offer a good bit more flexability in
this regard. I will see if it is ok to post the source code here. If it is
I will attach it to this ticket. That in thoery should enable a great deal
more modesetting.
On alot of newer gpu's the 2d acceleration is done with the regular 3d
hardware but emulated by software AFAIK.
