Fans spinning up is because all CPUs enter busy loops during KDL.

Going black and hanging is probably due to MacBooks not supporting text
 mode. Possibly I can hack together again that video console mode EFI
 loader I pushed not long ago...

 That would be great, I have another MBP that doesnt even try to boot, it
 just shows the splash and then hangs. Just let me know when I should try
 something out.
