New description:

This happened somewhere between hrev46412 and hrev46447. I now have to
disable SMP in the boot menu, else the system freezes somewhere between
 3rd and 4th icon.

On-screen debug last message is about using the IO-APIC, but I tried
disabling that and not using it crashes much earlier.

Nightly builds are still working. I tried doing a clean build (even re-ran
 configure and everything) without success.

Arfonzo is getting similar problems on VirtualBox, with a panic this time.
