I all started in 1948 when Mary Jane was born,
she had four brothers and one sister nearly two years later another boy was 
born to the family,the trouble was their Mother could not cope with so many 
children,so some of them had to go and live with other families,
The family that took Mary Jane already had two girls who were much older than 
she was,they were named Susan and Fiona Mary Jane was only three years old and 
was very scared of what was happening to her, the family were very kind to her 
and she was fed and clothed well,but the day came when she had to leave them to 
go to school,
Mary Jane had to go to a special school which was a boarding school and she was 
very afraid to leave her now secure home and go to this school,the day came 
when she was taken off to the school and was left there with lots of other 
girls and some staff who would look after them,
at first Mary Jane thought she would go back home at the end of the day then 
realized she had to stay there and was told she had to settle down like all the 
rest,
at first they were kind to her but as time went on she found out that things 
were going to be very hard,
from the age of five until she was eight she was looked after by one of the 
older girls who used to cover up a lot of things for her as she was very 
nervous   and used to wet the bed but one day one of the staff caught the older 
girl giving her a bath as she had wet her bed and it had to be changed,Miss 
Wilson who was one of the staff caught them in the bathroom and when she 
realized what was happening she lifted Mary Jane out of the bath and gave her 
the hiding of her life Mary Jane screamed the place down but that didn't matter 
but one thin was certain she never wet the bed again,
at the age of eight years old all children had to do chores before they went to 
school and Mary Jane was no exception she had to clean dormitories  bathrooms 
classrooms which used to double up as sitting rooms during the evening,also the 
school hall which was the ballroom, we have to do all this said Mary Jane to 
her Foster family when she wrote to them but they did not write back to her, 
each morning after breakfast everyone had to do their chores before nine 
o'clock then had to go to the ballroom for assembly before starting lessons.it 
was not until a few years later that the classroom block was built in the 
grounds  then she and all the other girls had to walk down the drive every 
morning to the school block,  every lunch time everyone had to go for a walk in 
a crocodile along the road before stopping at the house for lunch  this was the 
routine  during the week afternoon lessons finished at four with another 
assembly before tea,
at the weekends Mary Jane and her school mates  had to polish the building from 
top to bottom and on Sundays they had to go to church then write letters home 
when they got back,after lunch they had to go for a walk,
