Britain freezes as icy weather 'could last a month' By Beth Curtis Britain is set for a cold snap, as Arctic air sweeps the country this weekend (January 28th) and could continue to freeze for up to a month. Temperatures are set to plummet to as low as -5 degree C, breaking the persistently mild conditions that have been seen so far this winter. The Department of Health has stepped in to warn residents to take precautions against the chill, with a England-wide level 2 cold weather health warning being issued for 18:00 GMT Sunday January 29th to 09:00 GMT Tuesday January 31st. Forecasters had predicted hail and wintry showers yesterday, but no significant snowfall was seen. Commenting on the outlook, Sky News weather presenter Jo Wheeler said: "It looks as though a high pressure system over north-eastern Europe is going to feed Arctic air into Britain over the next few days. "How long this cold snap will last is largely dependent on the drift of that high pressure system. If it edges north, then it could bring some sustained wintry weather to central and eastern parts of the country." This winter has been a stark contrast to the winter of 2010/2011, when persistent snowfall and treacherous conditions brought much of the country to a standstill. from Vanessa The Google Girl. my skype name is rainbowstar123
