Corrie legend Julie Goodyear hit the TV screens once again last night as a
Celebrity Big Brother contestant.The star was one of 13 hopefuls to enter the
house as the reality show's latest series got underway.
Larger-than-life Julie spent decades behind the bar of the Rover's Return as
landlady Bet Lynch, becoming one of TV's most famous personalities.
She left the soap on a high in 1995 after being handed the Lifetime Achievement
gong in the National TV awards.The following year she was awarded the MBE for
services to TV drama.
Her profile has remained high ever since, given an extra boost in 2006 when she
released her candid autobiography Just Julie.
It included frank stories about her past relationships, including with other
women.
In 2007 she hit the headlines again when she wed her ex-stalker Scott Brand, 25
years her junior.
She fell in love with him after he started sitting in a tree outside her house
watching her. The unlikely romance resulted in a star-studded wedding reception
featuring members of Duran Duran and Charlotte Church.
She was last on screen earlier this year in the Corrie musical Street of Dreams.
Among her fellow housemates in the Big Brother house are Spandau Ballet bassist
and fellow soap actor Martin Kemp, comedian Julian Clary and former So Solid
Crew member MC Harvey.
Controversial columnist Samantha Brick, Loose Women presenter Coleen Nolan and
Olympic athlete Ashley McKenzie are also in the line-up.This year's is the 13th
series of Celebrity Big Brother, which moved to Channel 5 last year.
