SPECIAL NOTICES - New Listings
Custom Victor Stream Cases, Adult Fashion Bibs, Signature Guides and gift card
holders.
Everything I make is hand sewn or made my hand. Each Victor Stream case has 2
drawstrings that pull the top of the case closed tightly so your Victor won't
slip out. The drawstrings are long so you can sling your case over your
shoulder like a purse, or diagonally across your chest, or take one strap over
each shoulder and wear it like book bag. I can get almost any color you want. I
use fleece fabric and polyester/cotton blend fabric. Leather is not available.
Each case has a pocket on the front to store extra SD cards and ear buds. If
your Victor has the attachment for an extra cartridge I can make your case
larger to accommodate that. Each case is just $10 and that includes shipping
and handling.

Each Adult Fashion Bib can have either 2 long straps to be tied behind your
neck, or 2 shorter straps with Velcro to be fastened behind your neck. Same
types of fabric are used for these as are for the Victor cases. If you are a
tall person or plus size person I can make the bibs extra long or wide. Again,
I can get almost any color or print. Each bib is $8 and that includes shipping
and handling.

Attention Sports Fans! I can make your Victor Case or Fashion bib out of your
favorite Teams fabric. If I cannot find it, I can order it online, but there
will be an additional fee.

Each Signature Guide is made out of sturdy yet flexible black duck tape. They
are about the size of a credit card and can be easily stored in your wallet.
Each guide is $2 and that includes shipping and handling.

Need help finding accessible APPs for reading the Bible?

I recently retired after serving as pastor of Gladesboro Egangelical Lutheran
Church, a small parish in rural southwestern Virginia. This is no big deal,
except that I'm one of just a handful of totally blind pastors in my
denomination, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. I grew up in New York,
attended the New York Institute for the Blind, along with Ziegler contributor
Lynne Tatum, and became an avid student of Scripture by reading braille,
something I still very much enjoy!

But with the ever changing digital media comes a constant scramble to find
things we like, including the Bible in formats that are user-friendly for
visually impaired iPhone and computer users. I'm a recent convert to the
iPhone, and, one of the first things I looked for when I received my phone was
an APP or two that would give me Bible accessibility. What follows is a review
of some of the Bible APPS out there. I haven't explored all of them, of course,
because there are many, and, perhaps as time goes on, I'll continue my
exploration, and share with you what I discover. For the moment, here are some
thoughts about most popular Bible APPS.

When I first got my iPhone, several sighted friends insisted that I try out the
Olive Tree Bible APP. This program, though very popular for sighted users
because it's graphically appealing to the eye, is the least accessible for the
ear. It'll only read parts of verses using voice-over. So, recommend it for
your sighted friends and family. But if you're visually impaired, stay away
from the Olive Tree Bible.

At the other end of the spectrum, and very accessible is the Bible Gateway APP.
Not only is it totally user-compatible with voice-over, but you can also choose
to read Scripture translations using voice-over, or you can read using Bible
Gateway's audio versions of Bible texts. Unfortunately, the New Revised
Standard Version, in common use by main-line Protestant denominations isn't
available in most commercial APPS because Harper-Collins, the copyright holders
refuse permission to allow the NRSV to be made available for free.

This can be remedied by purchasing the NRSV Bible from the iBooks store. Access
to it is reasonably accessible.

One more accessible Bible APP is YouVersion, an app similar to Bible Gateway. I
have tried both, and prefer Bible Gateway.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me by email or phone. My email
address is duanesteele2@xxxxxxxxx, and my phone number is (276) 730-5194.

GW Micro Launches GWSkype

Fort Wayne, Indiana (December 19, 2011) - GW Micro, Inc. (www.gwmicro.com)
announced a major innovation today for the blind and visually impaired
community. GW Micro, developers of Window-Eyes, the most powerful screen
reader available, have developed GWSkype - a Window-Eyes app that makes Skype
accessible to all blind and visually impaired people who use a Windows computer.

Skype is a peer-to-peer service that allows users to call and message others
via the Internet. Skype users may also call other landlines for a fee. While
Skype has been around for years, its constantly changing user interface has
been extremely difficult for blind and visually impaired users. "Each time the
user interface changes, we have to completely write new a new Window-Eyes app
to account for the changes," said Dan Weirich, Vice President of Sales and
Marketing for GW Micro. "These constant changes make it difficult or
impossible for blind and visually impaired consumers to continue using the
Skype service."

The new GWSkype app will always make the Skype service available to blind and
visually impaired computer users regardless of new versions of Skype that are
released. The GWSkype app is a Window-Eyes app and demonstrates the power of
Window-Eyes apps unmatched by any of its competitors. As Christmas is
approaching, GW Micro is releasing the GWSkype app to all blind and visually
impaired users who are running Windows at no cost. So, even a consumer not
running Window-Eyes can still download and use the GWSkype app.

"We believe that this is a special time of year and we want to give back," said
Weirich. "GWSkype is a special gift from GW Micro to all blind and visually
impaired users of Windows".

The GWSkype app can be downloaded at http://www.gwmicro.com/apps/gwskype. You
can download the GWSkype live webinar and product demonstration at
www.gwmicro.com/podcast.

GW Micro has been a trusted pioneer in the adaptive technology industry since
1990, and continues to lead with innovative, customer driven solutions.

On the quarterly TSA Disability Coalition teleconference held last week, we
informed our members that TSA planned to launch TSA Cares, a toll-free helpline
to provide information and assistance to passengers with disabilities and
medical conditions and their families before they fly. We are excited to
announce that TSA Cares is now available and accepting calls.

Travelers may call TSA Cares toll free at 1-855-787-2227 prior to traveling
with questions about screening policies, procedures and what to expect at the
security checkpoint. Travelers who are deaf or hard of hearing can use a relay
service to contact TSA Cares or can e-mail TSA-ContactCenter@xxxxxxxx

The hours of operation for the TSA Cares helpline are Monday through Friday 9
a.m. - 9 p.m. EST, excluding federal holidays. After hours, travelers can find
information about traveling with disabilities and medical needs on TSA's
website at:
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/disabilityandmedicalneeds/

When a passenger with a disability or medical condition calls TSA Cares, a
representative will provide assistance, either with information about screening
that is relevant to the passenger's specific disability or medical condition,
or the passenger may be referred to disability experts at TSA. TSA recommends
that passengers call approximately 72 hours ahead of travel so that TSA Cares
has the opportunity to coordinate checkpoint support with a TSA Customer
Service Manager located at the airport when necessary.

TSA will issue a press release regarding TSA Cares later today, as well as
making information about TSA Cares available on www.tsa.gov. We will provide
you with the specific link to TSA Cares information when it becomes active, as
well as a link to the official press release.

We urge you to spread the word about TSA Cares so that those you represent have
access to information about screening that is specific to their disabilities or
medical conditions. As always, the staff from the Office of Disability Policy
and Outreach will be available to you to assist with disseminating information
about TSA Cares.

Thank you for your continued participation and support. We look forward to
improving the screening experience for passengers through TSA Cares.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Walton, Special Counselor
Transportation Security Administration

There are limited resources, if any, for visually impaired consumers to access
this information. Many websites are not designed to be fully or even partly
accessible for text-to-speech screen readers, Braille output devices, screen
magnifiers and web-enabled cell phones.
This important information is often ignored because of the difficulty in seeing
it. Some of this information is of a convenient nature but drug interaction and
allergy warnings could be life threatening. Gaining comprehensive access will
foster self sufficiency and allow consumers to lead more healthy and
independent lives.
directionsforMeTM was designed specifically for the blind and visually impaired
consumer and employs innovative methods to simplify the user experience.
Skip to Main Content: Allows you to bypass repetitive information contained on
each web page.
Subject Headings: Lets you go directly to the information you want without
wading through content you do not.
Formatting: After consulting and testing with actual users, information on the
directions site is set up in the most efficient and understandable way possible.
The Directions website will address a glaring disconnect between consumer
product manufacturers and this underserved population.
The easy-to-use format makes directionsforMeTM appealing to a wide range of
consumers. With the amount of information on consumer products increasing
dramatically and the print size decreasing just as significantly, many
consumers, particularly the growing senior population, are having trouble
reading the information on packages and labels.
Through a licensing agreement with Gladson, Directions features over 300,000
products in food, health and beauty and general merchandise categories. It
provides consumers a consistent, one-stop source for preparation directions,
nutrition facts, ingredients, allergy/drug interaction warnings and more.
