Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Emmerdale stars play leading roles in Greater Manchester Police charity football match. August 14, 2012 'ELLO, 'ELLO, 'ELLO: The celebrity GMP football team 'ELLO, 'ELLO, 'ELLO: The celebrity GMP football team Torrentail downpours failed to stop a star-studded celebrity XI and a police football team from raising more than £1,000 for charity. Actors from Hollyoaks, Coronation Street and Emmerdale overcame the boys in blue by a score of 6-4 at a sodden Valley Road stadium in Urmston. But the Stockport-based charity Retrak, who help homeless children in Africa, was the real winner following a match that saw a 30-minute cameo from GMP's top cop Sir Peter Fahy. The Chief Constable started the game for the bobbies, who went into the break 5-0 down. Some tactical switches saw them claw it back to 5-4 and set up a grandstand finish before a breakaway goal secured the victory for the Celebs. A crowd of more than 100 watched the match, which also saw a mascot race at half time. Event organiser Kate Ramsey, from GMP, said: "The crowd was a little disappointing because of the weather. But a lot of those who did turn up said they'd had a fantastic time. "We're hoping to raise more than a £1,000 and Retrak will then try and double that under a new government scheme that matches funds raised. "This was put on at short notice and we are looking at making it an annual challenge."
