Noralee,
You were right – when I reached out to the schools, several of them had gotten
calls. Fortunately, we have the GTID showing in our student and parent
portals, so we are just telling folks to log in to their accounts!
It is crazy that DOE thinks nothing of springing that on us at this point –
with all the other craziness going on. Then, I was sort of insulted by their
communication late this afternoon about FERPA, and we are required to provide
to them! That was never the point!!

Subject: Important – Districts and Schools Releasing GTID Information to
Parents for P-EBT
Superintendents Student Record, FTE, Student Class, Assessment Coordinators,
and Principals:
The Georgia Department of Education has received numerous calls from both
parents and districts seeking the release of students’ GTIDs for P-EBT
purposes. We are aware of the requirement to provide the GTID to enable
parents of children receiving free or reduced-price lunch to receive additional
EBT funds because of the CARES Act funding.
FERPA gives parents and eligible students the right to inspect and review a
student’s education record. Included in that education record is the GTID.
Unless there is a court order, state law, or other legally binding document
that prevents a district from sharing the GTID with the parent or eligible
student, you may release the GTID to the parent or eligible student once that
individual’s identity has been authenticated according to your district’s
practice.
Attached is the P-EBT FAQ document, P-EBT Infographic.pdf, recently sent out by
the GaDOE School Nutrition department to provide guidance and answer questions
about this program. For further information regarding the P-EBT program please
contact Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) or the GaDOE
School Nutrition Division.
