Good morning! As I am sure you are aware, in addition to putting on an
annual conference, the Georgia Student Information Systems (GSIS) Board of
Directors advocates for the interests of school districts and their
employees and encourages effective communications between the GaDOE,
software vendors, and end users. Following are the objectives of GSIS:
1. To serve as a forum for information exchange regarding the Georgia
student data reporting requirements.
2. To provide a vehicle for workshops about various Information Systems,
user techniques and enhancements, and other production software.
3. To provide a forum for a united voice regarding software development.
4. To provide a vehicle for the exchange of information, ideas, and
needs between the end users of Student Information Systems software, the
State Department of Education, and other software vendors.
Davey Sheffield <dsheffield@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> (Dodge County) and I have been
asked to head up the Advocacy committee of the Board for the 2017-2018
year. At each of our meetings, we discuss issues that are of common
importance to those we represent in school districts. In order to foster
communication and give GaDOE a means to hear from school districts
regarding such issues, we are preparing a summary of issues that are
discussed at each meeting. As a standard practice, we would like to send
to contacts in policy, data collections, and accountability, since these
are the areas that most influence our work. If you believe there is anyone
else at GaDOE that would benefit from receiving these updates, please let
us know. Also, feel free to forward to anyone that you believe would have
insight into any specific issues addressed.
